Entertainment

Coblentz provides our entertainment industry clients a full range of representation through our corporate, litigation, and intellectual property practices, offering creativity and commitment that matches our clients’ contributions.

Our firm has built a national reputation for its successful litigation for the music industry, and being in the epicenter of the Internet revolution, has been a leader in matters involving music and the Internet. We’ve helped to vindicate the intellectual property rights of artists and other content owners in the file sharing and peer-to-peer technology environment, including successful work on behalf of the music publisher plaintiffs in the much-publicized A&M Records Inc., et al. v. Napster, Inc. case.

We also represent major music performing rights organizations in public performance rights enforcement actions and have successfully recovered sanctions on behalf of client Sony Music Entertainment in a case involving the catalog of jazz legend Nina Simone against her former producer who was allegedly unlawfully exploiting her work. Other high profile enforcement cases have included representing a well-known producer/artist in a royalty dispute with his record label; representing the Recording Industry Association of America in its litigation against MP3Board.com under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act; and representing a major music performing rights organization in public performance rights enforcement actions.
